Edoardo Tancredi

Edo Tancredi is a multi stylistic drummer, composer and music producer originally from Ascoli Piceno (Italy) based in Los Angeles, CA. His passion for different kinds of music has led him to cover a wide variety of genres that include Rock, Funk, R&B/Soul, Blues, Gospel, Jazz, Americana/Country and Latin. Edo’s performance credits between live and studio work include Avril Lavigne, Jason Mraz, Amelia Moore, Ava Maybee, Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child), Eric Benet and many more. With the Rock-band Magnetico (led by guitarist Rafael Moreira) he’s opened many shows for the historic band KISS. Edo has worked on countless records with Grammy-award winning producers/musicians such Alfonso Rodenas, Marty Rifkin (Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Elton John), George Landress (No Doubt, Dionne Warwick) and James Saez (Breaking Bad, Nine Inch Nails) and Saverio Principini (Vasco Rossi, Eros Ramazzotti) to name a few. He has worked as a drummer on Emmy-Award nominated TV shows like “Nashville” and CBS TV show “Seal Team”. In the latest few years Edo has been composing and producing more for TV and Ads. His productions can be heard on many TV shows on Prime, Fox, Telemundo, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Disney Plus, Netflix (Pasta Queen, Wicked Tuna, Gordon Ramsay’s 24Hrs to Hell and more). Edo is also currently working on the project “Nick Milo Trio” with the amazing pianist Nick Milo (Joe Cocker, Tower of Power) and legendary bassist Ray Neapolitan (The Doors, John Lennon, Leonard Cohen, Joe Cocker). They are about to release their second album “Morning Rays” after the first one released in 2023 called “Dancing at Midnight”.
I am a drummer that is becoming more and more a composer and a producer. I enjoy being creative and being in a creative environment that pushes me to the next level. I have been traveling quite a bit for work but it’s something that I do for fun as well. Through traveling, often together with my wife, I have been finding new inputs and inspirations that nurture my experience as a human being. Being Italian makes me also want to enjoy my time with people that I love, obviously sharing food and wine.
I’ve always been interested in American culture, especially the City of Los Angeles and California. My prominent interest in music (and movies) has led me to LA, because of the history of this Country and the contribution that it had on contemporary music and the arts as a whole. Los Angeles has an amazing music scene that goes hand in hand with the movie industry, and has been the home for so many great musicians, composers and recording studios that have made history. I believe that this was the best place for me to choose to actually grow as an artist and as a person.
I think my best memory was the very first time I was about to land at LAX. From the plane I could not see the end of the city, I started seeing the tall palms, some of the Downtown buildings and different areas and all around there was this amazing light that Los Angeles is known for. I felt such a jolt of excitement, ambition and a hint of fear. It really was such a big change for me and definitely felt like a new beginning.
I choose this location (we are by the Roxy Theater, on Sunset Blvd) because when I was a kid I used to listen to a lot of live albums that said “Live at The Roxy” and also Sunset Blvd is home of many of my favorite recording studios where a lot of my favorite records were produced. I did end up playing and working at the Roxy and many of the places I once used to dream about. What I am wearing for this portrait is what represents me in a sense of being mainly a minimalistic guy with a hint of Rock&Roll. Also, I am very attached to this jacket since my wife got it for me.
I think “ITALIANY” is a great avenue that gives opportunity to tell stories of the Italians that have left the country to seek experiences that they wouldn’t ever have imagined they’d have. And it’s also important for the readers to get inspiration from these wild (or definitely different) stories and life paths and they may get some good insights to pursue their own path. I am honored that I have been featured in an issue of this project.
Being an ambassador for the Italian style and culture means portraying with pride the passion, creativity and values that Italians are known for all around the World. The “Italian” way of life is, I think for most, a great source of inspiration: simple living that has meaning and a sense of purpose, and sharing our time with loved ones or amazing people that inspire you. I’ve been appreciating my roots and where I come from by traveling and living abroad.
I love this question and I’d say there are so many bands that I would have loved to play for. I think the first that comes to mind is “Led Zeppelin”. I just love their songs and the energy that the band has and I’m a big John Bonham fan (their drummer). I think John Bonahm’s drum parts fit so well with the music they were writing and his playing is bombastic and has great taste. I believe Rock drummers from that era (late 60’s/70’s) have a very special way of playing. You can hear they all come from a Jazz background, because that’s where the drumset actually started to take place. The very first drummers from the 20’s/30’s started putting together these “drum-sets” or “kits” basically taking each percussion from the marching band (think about the bass drum and snare drum) and putting them in a way where just one person could play all the different percussion parts. Also another band that comes to mind is “The Jimi Hendrix Experience”. Think about playing that music at that time with a legend like Jimi Hendrix. Most likely people thought he sounded like somebody coming from another planet, nobody sounded like him. Also The Beatles and The Rolling Stones would have been pretty amazing to play for. The list of bands can go on for a while actually.
